Department Manager (Administrative Officer)

Administrative leader for the Center for HSR. Directly supervise a team of 5 administrative staff. Administrative and documentation responsibility for all department staff, which includes 50 personnel. Work with over 30 faculty members (MD and PhD level) to develop and implement research grant proposals. Specific duties include:
ï Manage a $1 million annual departmental operating budget.
ï Manage over 50 grant funds from various organizations (NIH, ACS, RWJ, etc) totaling approximately $20 million per year.
ï Prepare financial and administrative documents for 20-50 grant submissions per year.
ï Administer Human Resources documentation- payroll, benefits, timekeeping, on-site injury reporting, FMLA processing, PeopleSoft 8 reporting and use, and BA3 entry and tracking.
ï Manage recruitment and hiring function, determine the needs of the organization, write job descriptions, post open positions, filter and interview applicants, and select qualified candidates.
ï Manage performance development- including employee and supervisor training, periodic performance evaluations, and utilization of Vanderbiltís Performance Improvement Counseling system.
ï Design and implement administrative organizational structure.
ï Assess and recommend compensation.
