Front Desk Receptionist

As a Front Desk Receptionist, I was responsible for greeting patients, collecting their insurance information and checking them in through the GE Centricity database. I was responsible for checking correct insurance information and verification of insurances such as Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Aetna, Cigna, Unicare, and many others including HMO's through Advocate Heath Centers, Silver Cross, and Christ Hospitals. I was responsible for patient services over the phone and scheduling appointments with the necessary doctors to treat the chief complaints and diagnoses of the patients. I worked in the company's call center frequently and quickly learned their new company-wide phone system. I prepared patient charts and files on new patients and worked in the medical records department on occasion. I was also assigned to prepare and edit dictations of one of the ophthalmologists and mail out those dictations in a timely manner. On occasion I would be asked to do jobs outside of my daily responsibilities such as gathering and organizing documents from an online ophthalmology database for the company to use for future endeavors, and creating and putting together an address listing of retinal doctors that the company's doctors refer to in an organized and easy-to-read layout.

As Intake Coordinator I was responsible for organizing the nursing notes and medical information of each patient for company files and data entry into the PRN Plus database. I was also responsible for inputting the proper coding and nursing notes into the HAVEN database and send it off to Medicare for billing. I was responsible for contacting Mobile Doctors and other partner companies on a daily basis to stay on top of receiving signed notes and documents from the doctors by mail and fax. I was given the task of creating from scratch and maintaining a Daily Report that kept track of patient numbers, listings of prospective patients, tasks and goals for the day, and other pertinent comments and notes for morning meetings. I was also given the task of documenting the company's medical inventory.

As the Clerical Intern I was responsible for answering phone calls and providing a comforting first voice to distressed clients and schedule them with the appropriate Counselor or Psychologist according to their needs. Scheduling was maintained through Microsoft Outlook's calendar. I was responsible for documenting each conversation with each client over the phone for records purposes. I was responsible for calling client's insurance companies and check for eligibly of coverage for the services provided to the clients. I was also responsible for medical records filing and organization. On occasion I would be asked to copy, fold, and organize company pamphlets for workshops, promotional dinners, churches, and other company partnering organizations.
