2002 – 2007 California Institute of Technology (Caltech)
Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Carried out groundbreaking work in a leading research laboratory at Caltech, a world-class science and engineering research and educational university. Awarded a prestigious research fellowship from the American Heart Association. Unique research has resulted in at least 3 high-impact scientific research publications. Trained, directed and managed graduate student projects and research associates. Service on postdoctoral committees resulted in highly effective collaborations and negotiations with Caltech faculty, staff and other postdoctoral scientists.
ï First to identify a direct target of a protein (Snail2) in vivo that is implicated in cancer metastasis.
ï Developed one of the first in vivo model systems to study Ewingís Sarcoma cancer.
ï First to identify a cell migration defect caused by the loss of an extracellular matrix protein.

1998 – 2002 National Institute for Medical Research
Graduate Student

Applied and was awarded a Medical Research Council (MRC; NIH equivalent) studentship to undertake a highly successful PhD in a premiere laboratory at the Council's largest research facility. Two different research projects resulted in 4 peer-reviewed publications.
ï Restructured and streamlined a molecular screening process resulting in higher throughput screening.
ï Isolated, cloned, expressed, as well as characterized, a novel cysteine-rich protein.
ï Demonstrated protein-protein interaction between a novel ligand and signaling molecule.

1997 – 1998 Human Genome Mapping Project
Research Associate - Fugu Sequencing Landmark Mapping Project

This research project resulted in a high impact publication in a prestigious journal and contributed to the Human Genome Mapping project, an international effort to sequence the entire human genome.
ï One of the first to use comparative genomics to identify gene regulatory elements.
