Product Development Scientist

- Responsible for formula development of new PVC compounds for medical, military and wire & cable applications as well as general applications. Reverse-engineered competitive products incorporating various physical, chemical and rheological properties. Developed flame retardant compounds.
- Lab experience in wet chemistry and instrumental analysis: GC, ACR, FTIR, Tinius Olsen, Brabender, Rossflex, Taber abrasion, Instron and microscopy.
- Coordinate development, production and quality activities of QC Technicians, Color Match Formulator and Associate Engineer. Keep track of laboratory calibration system.
- Served as Management Representative and Lead Quality Auditor. Wrote documentation (procedures and work instructions) for local quality handbook. Trained management personnel to ISO-9001 Quality Management System (QMS) corporate requirements. Supervised internal auditors and performed internal audits on quality system. Tracked and maintained corrective and preventative action system.

1996 – 1998 PETRO PLASTICS
Materials Engineer

- Supervised the establishment of QC department. Developed unique in-house physical and chemical test specifications for raw material and on-line inspection. Purchased and installed laboratory equipment. Wrote documentation for laboratory functions.
- Collected, analyzed and dimensional data for all production lines. Based on analysis made modifications to raw material choice, suggested and implemented redesign to die and tooling, modifications in processing as well as production secondary operations.

1989 – 1995 SILVATRIM CORPORATION
Laboratory Manager/Industrial Chemist

- Managed QC program for raw material inspection; ABS, CAB, LDPE & PVC resins, pressure sensitive adhesives, metalized polyester film, vinyl film and other production materials.
- Supervised a team of three laboratory technicians. Managed full scope of laboratory functions including device and supply purchases. Familiar with MSDS, HAZMAT and NJDEP waste water regulatory requirements.
- Tested newly submitted materials for extrusion and supplemental on-line processes. These materials include; synthetic rubber-based hot melt adhesives, UV-resistant polymeric colorants, high-abrasion UV-cured ink systems and water-based vinyl adhesives for use in a heat-activated extrusion process.
- Analytical instruments: Instron materials tester, extrusion plastometer, laboratory extruders, Hunter spectrophotometer and Xenon arc-type and QUV weatherometers.
- Performed manufacturer test procedures using engineering and materials specs of Ford, GM, GE, Chrysler and Whirlpool. Tested co-extruded composite product for physical durability in harsh environmental conditions and based upon results made suggestions for product redesign.
- Conducted destructive and non-destructive physical testing of polymeric composite product for product certification.

1985 – 1989 AVERY INTERNATIONAL
