Professional Experience

2005 – present University of Maryland School of Medicine
Research Associate

ï Develop and fabricate metallic nanoparticles/nanostructures, novel fluorescence probes and novel metal plasmon-controlled complexes for in-vivo cell imaging and sensing
ï Employ single molecule spectroscopic and imaging technique to investigate molecular luminescence enhancement in the presence of metal nanoparticles and metallic nanostructure
ï Research into surface plasmon-controlled DNA micro-arrays used for medical diagnostics, proteomics and genomics. Develop high sensitive detection and single molecule/cell counting apparatus
ï Provide service and technology transfer to both academic and industrial organizations

2004 – 2005 Kanas State University
Postodctoral fellow

ï Synthesized and characterized sol-gel derived thin films (ORMOSIL, surfactant-templated mesoporous silica) using X-ray diffraction and single-molecule spectroscopy
ï Employed spectroscopic imaging, single molecule fluorescence spectroscopy and fluorescence correlation spectroscopy to determine the spectroscopic signatures of dye dopants in silicate films prepared by sol-gel process
ï Designed and modified single molecule fluorescence spectroscopic systems

Education

2003 West Virginai University
– Doctorate (PhD/MD/JD)

ï Synthesized Molecularly Imprinted Polymers (MIPs) for small organic vapor compounds
ï Studied selective vapor adsorption behaviors of MIPs
ï Designed and evaluated miniaturized preconcentrator for an integrated chemical sensor system using for trace organic vapors
ï Designed and modified fluorescence spectroscopic system for DNA hybridization detection; tailored fluorescent dyes (fluorescein and porphyrins) with Lanthanides (Europium and Ytterbium) complexes

1997 Nankai University
– Master's Degree (MA/MS/MBA)

ï Synthesized Polyaniline and Polypyrrole conductive polymers using electrochemical methods
ï Designed and characterized biosensor(enzyme electrodes) based on conductive polymers for glucose detection

1994 Nankai University
– Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS)

synthesized a novel type of side chain liquid crystal polymer based on a 4-hydroxyphenyl benzoate attached to a polymethacrylate main chain. The thermal properties of the polymer were investigated through micro- and macrostructural characterizations (DSC,optical microscopy). The research conducted is a new approach to design such side chain polymers with liquid crystal properties
